Usually I reserve my awe for the miracle of bloom and the artistry of creation, but every now and then the miracle of technology catches me in absolute awe that such things are possible. I spoke with my daughter today, over a computer connection between rainy New England and southeast Asia. In my lifetime and no, I am not THAT old, I remember when that distance would mean letters that took weeks to arrive at either place and the very rare, very expensive international call over a crackling connection, so that every other word was lost. Today, with ease and no more planning than seeing an online icon next to a name, we were in voice contact. And it was good. A mitzvah* indeed. Amen, Shalom and Blessed Be.
*from the Jewish faith tradition; a worthy deed.
